China. Liao Dynasty. A superb, gilt bronze funerary mask and hands. The mask is thin walled and is beautifully executed down to the detail of the eye lashes. Much of the original gold gilt finish remains on the mask but all gilt is lost on the hands. Losses to the rim of the mask. Both the mask and hands are mounted in lucite display.
