Chinese, Tang Dynasty, ( 618-906 ). A terra cotta, low fired tomb figure in the form of a warrior figure often called Lokapala. These armored figures with fierce demeanor, standing with an extended arm holding a sword or weapon, became the guardians of Tang tomb entrances. Our example is missing the weapon in the extended hand and suggests some minor repairs by a previous Chinese owner. Size, 26" in height. |
