This powerful mask is used in divination and dances, to protect the community from forest spirits and sorcerers, The tongue protruding from an open mouth with large, metal teeth is meant to be aggressive in the performance of that function. The head and surrounding area of cheeks and chin are covered with worn animal hide. The forehead and facial bar are covered with worn tacks and the chin rimmed in cowrie shells. Worn from use and age but in good overall condition
