Kuba People, Zaire. A very fine example of a helmet mask called Bwoom. One of the three oldest mask types used by the Kuba. Originally introduced in the 17th C by King Miko, Baroom masquerades appear on numerous ceremonial occasions. Bwoom represents the native spirit Ngeesh. This example shows great attention to incise carved detail and proportions. Nice patina from use. Size 8.5"x11" |
