Yombe People, Southwestern Zaire. An exceptional and rare, Colonial Era, (late 19th-early 20th Century), mask of the "Nanga Diphomba" the community diviner. This very powerful mask is an extraordinary piece of art in its own right. The "Colonial" enamel shows some wear with attractive patina. The animal hair turban, attached to create the effect of human hair, has substantial loss due to age. Some cracks and rim loss. Size 9"x13". |
