Asian and Tribal Weapons and Shields

Somal People, dispersed through Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya. A very well crafted small shield intended to be worn on the lower arm. The hide of the shield is left natural rather than dyed like those of neighboring tribes, which accents the simple motif of concentric rings on the face. According to Plansche and Zirngibl, the hide of giraffes, gazelles, antelopes and rhinoceroses are commonly used by the Somal in crafting their shields. This is the only example we have had the opportunity to study or acquire. Size, 13.75" in diameter.
