Abyssinian Style Shield
While this style of shield is often called Abyssinian, it is also widely carried in Ethiopia. The everted rim dipping in a shallow channel and rising to a dome is a very effective design for deflecting spears and arrows. The motif designs of rings, dots and cross hatch are typical for this type of shield and are muted with the effects of use and age,
The shield is usually crafted from the hide of water buffalo and salt water cured in the sun to create the stiff, hard surface.
19 inches in diameter.
