Chinese, Antique Cavalry Saber.
A very scarce Chinese Cavalry Saber, the design of which seems to have been strongly influenced by the Japanese M1899 Cavalry Saber. Quite large, with an overall length of 45 inches and a blade of 37 inches. The blade is has he same general shape as the katana or M1899, with a distinctive curve, marked by a defined shoulder and a medial ridge on the spine. When originally purchased in China the owner was told that it had been used in the Boxer Rebellion.
