Kota People, Obamba Reliquary Figure, Eastern Gabon
Kota People, Obambareliquary figure, eastern Gabon.
The face neck and shoulders covered in brass standing on a stool. The posture and stool suggests that this may be a reliquary associated with an important elder or chief. There is an additional face carved on the back of the head, which is quite unusual and native repairs to the lower back and stool. The feet of the stool show losses, perhaps the result of insects eating the food offerings placed around the base. An unusual and desirable Kota figure.
31" in height.
