Kota, Obabma People, Reliquary Figure, Eastern Gabon
Kota Obama people, reliquary figure, eastern Gabon.
The face neck and shoulders covered in brass standing on a stool. The posture and stool suggests that this may be a reliquary associated with a important elder or chief. There is an additional face carved on the back of the head and native repairs to the lower back. The feet of the stool show losses, perhaps the result of insects eating the food offerings. An unusual and desirable Kota figure.
31" in height.
