Soviet Pilot Cosmonaut Wings and Accompanying Medals
We are pleased to offer these desirable Soviet Pilot Cosmonaut wings and medals associated with the Soviet Space Program. Issued beginning in 1967 with the formation of q new, separate division called Troops of Anti Missile and Space Defense, the three Cosmonaut Wings are ranked third class to first class. They are awarded based on the number of space flights as well as on the duration of the flight. These wings replaced traditional Soviet AiR Force wings The Cosmonaut wings are gold gilt with enameled centers of high quality. Each wing bears the mark of the Moscow mint where it was crafted. The accompanying medals are seldom seen.
The first, with the profile of a Cosmonaut was awarded on the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Astronaut Detachment, 1960-1985. The second was awarded to members of theFlight Management Center.
These five pieces were brought out of the Soviet Union in the late 1980s by a Russian family from whom we acquired them.
