From the the mid Ogowe region of Gabon this seldom encountered Fang mask is noted for the prominent brows and nose with an open,tooth fillled mouth depicting both a human and animal sprit with the sagital crest of a gorilla and the exagerated face of a human Crafted as a half helmet mask the white kaolin is rubbed and depleted with use as are the black, charcoal colored brows and nose.There is one large hole on each side of the mask for attaching a band. The holes are worn and irregular.
The use of the mask is uncertain other than it is thought that the color white is associated with the ancestor spirits.
