Vietnamese, Standing Male Water Puppet
A very fine example of a large male character in traditional garb. The arms are attached in such a way as to be animated but the mechanism is no longer operational. Puppet Companies from this period traveled from one rural village to another and performed in rice paddies often filled with water. Any required repairs were made by the puppeteers from available material.
As can be seen in the photos there is wear to the paint from use and age. The access port on the back shows some minor loss. The puppet is 19 1/2" in height
