French Military Drummer in the uniform of the French Army of the later 19th c.
The base is signed H. Tremo which is the manner of the French artist Georges Omerth signed his works, spelling his name backwards.
Omerth regularly exhibited at the Gallery of French Artists in the 1883-1890 period and was active until 1925. The well sculpted face and faithful rendering of the uniform and kit suggests that Omerth is making a Patriotic statement. The statue is crafted in spelter with a bronze finish. There are a few small crack in the base which is slightly warped. 15" in height.
