Among the Makonde of Mozambique and Tanzania a figure of a Mother with Child is said to be symbolic of continuity, fertility, the promise of future generations, spiritual and regenerative powers and the capacity to nurture everyone from the individual to society at large. these themes are most sown with a female and young child but the themes are relevant to both women and men.
