A hardwood War Shield crafted in a style attributed to the Hunstein Mountain Region of the New Guinea Highlands. Rectangular in form, with a some what rounded top that has a twine lacing to which Talismanic items, Cassowary feathers or other ornaments were attached. Both the grip and sling
appear to be of a well used, rope like material. The traditional pattern on the face of the shield was applied with a combination of pigment and commercial paint. There are minor edge losses and wear from use and age.
