Ethiopian Leather War Shield, Konso People,
A scarce leather war shield from the Konso People, Lake Chamo Region, Ethiopia.
The majority of leather Ethopian Shields encountered today are round.
The Konso Shields are distinctive with the slightly waisted lozenge shape. The designer is worn but the pattern was obviously formed while the leather was pliant and left to dry. Usually fashioned from buffalo hide with a three point leather grip and rolled edge.
