After being greeted on his arrival by the sisters of the then King, Kongolo, he was recognized as a person of nobility and asailly offerings a great warrior. He was put at the head of the king's armies and was responsible for expanding Kongolos control of the land that was to become the Luba Empire.

Ilunga Mbuti was a warrior, a hunter, and a prophet. From him came two Empires, that of the luba annd that of the Lunda.

This one of a kind sculpture was field collected almost forty years ago from a village where it was revered and given daily offerings. These offerings were enjoyed by the insects who ate not only the food but also fed on the wood of the sculpture.
